DON’T SHOP…ADOPT
This is my shelter adopted dog, Jasmine. We think it’s time to put puppy mills out of business. Puppy mills breed large numbers of purebred puppies, but the conditions are deplorable. They over breed, inbreed, don’t provide proper veterinary care, crowd them in small cages, and offer poor quality food.
According to the Humane Society of the United States, the puppies are often sold directly to the public by way of internet and newspaper advertisements. Or they are sold to brokers and pet shops. Often this means consumers buy puppies with veterinary problems, not to mention the issue of lack of human socialization. For more information visit www.hsus.org.
There are so many dogs available in shelters and rescue organizations. The ASPCA estimates that five out of ten dogs in shelters are destroyed because they don’t get adopted. Find more facts at www.aspca.org. If you really want a puppy or a pure bred dog and you don’t find them in the shelters, try rescue organizations. There are many rescues for specific breeds. And adoption fees in many cases are much less than you would pay for a purebred puppy in a pet store.
If you are ready to bring a new best friend into your home and life, please don’t help the puppy mills keep going. Save a life…and give a dog a second chance.
